Patundas Meadows

Patundas Meadows is one of the most spectacular high-altitude trekking destinations in Upper Hunza. Located at around 4,200 metres above sea level, the meadows sit high above the Passu Valley in Gojal. The trek combines glaciers, high mountain camps, steep trails and wide views of the Karakoram.

The journey begins about 13 km from Villa Darya Hotels & Resorts in Shishkat. The drive follows the road to Upper Borith Gojal, where the trek starts from Zero Point. From here, the route follows the Passu Glacier towards Khookhel before crossing the glacier and continuing towards the higher camps.

Reaching Patundas Meadows requires a minimum of three days. The route is demanding and requires good physical fitness, suitable trekking equipment and experience with high-altitude terrain.

Trekking to Patundas Meadows

The trek starts at Zero Point in Upper Borith, about 13 km from Villa Darya. From here, the trail follows the Passu Glacier towards Khookhel, the first campsite on the route.

The landscape changes quickly as the trail gains altitude. Glacier terrain, rocky slopes and towering peaks surround the route. After reaching Khookhel, the trek continues towards the glacier crossing.

The glacier crossing is an important part of the journey. Conditions can vary, so the route should be assessed by experienced local guides before crossing. After the glacier, trekkers continue towards the second campsite.

From the second campsite, the trail climbs towards Patundas Meadows. The final section gains significant elevation before reaching the open high-altitude grasslands at approximately 4,200 metres.

Patundas Meadows at 4,200 Metres

Patundas Meadows offers an exceptional viewpoint over the surrounding Karakoram. From the high meadows, trekkers can enjoy expansive views of the Passu Valley, glaciers and surrounding peaks.

The location feels very different from the villages and roads of lower Gojal. At this altitude, the landscape is open, rugged and exposed. The combination of green alpine meadows and surrounding mountains makes Patundas a memorable trekking destination in Upper Hunza.

The trek is best undertaken with an experienced local guide. Weather can change quickly at high altitude, while glacier conditions may also affect the route.

Extend the Trek for More Mountain Experiences

Patundas Meadows can be explored as a minimum three-day trek. Trekkers who have more time can add two additional days for further excursions in the surrounding mountains.

One possible extension is a visit towards Shishper Peak Base Camp. The additional days allow more time to explore the high mountain landscape rather than returning immediately after reaching Patundas.

With its glacier crossings, high camps and dramatic mountain scenery, the Patundas trek is one of the more demanding trekking experiences in Gojal. It is particularly suited to trekkers looking for a deeper experience of the Karakoram beyond the main tourist routes.
